Post-doctoral Researchers

  • Dr Mike Gorbounov

    (January 2024-Present) After finishing up his PhD, Mike has continued as a Post-doctoral researcher within the group. His research focuses on the SeaCURE project.

  • Dr Shervan Babamohammadi

    (January 2022-January 2024) - Shervan joined the research group in January 2022 as a post doctoral researcher after graduating with a PhD in chemical engineering from the University of Malaya, Malaysia in October 2021. His main research focus is on modelling and optimisation of combined CO2 capture and hydrogen production processes. He also assists with day to day operation of our research team and serves as an assistant PhD supervisor in the research group.

  • Dr Soraya Hosseini

    (January 2021 - December 2021) - Post-doctoral Researcher. Multiphysics and multiscale modelling for safe and feasible CO2 capture and storage

PhD Students

  • Mike Gorbounov

    (March 2020 - December 2023) - Mike joined the research group in March 2020. His research primarily focuses on post-combustion CO2 capture with a specific focus on synthesising carbonaceous adsorbents derived from biomass combustion ash. He currently works as a research assistant on the SeaCURE project.

  • Ben Petrovic

    Ben joined the research group in October 2019. His research primarily focuses on post-combustion CO2 capture with a specific focus on synthesising zeolites derived from biomass fly ash.

  • Jess Taylor

    Jess’ research focuses on creating sustainable adsorbents using recycled carbon fibres, to remediate pollutants generated by the aquaculture industry. She previously studied an integrated masters degree in chemistry at the University of Greenwich.

  • Billy Davies

    Billy joined the research group in April 2022, his research primarily focuses on incorporating Machine Learning into Process Modelling and the optimisation of blue hydrogen production.

  • Hassan Chamas

    Hassan joined the research group in October 2022. His research focuses on post-combustion carbon capture and the development of adsorbents, specifically the synthesise of carbonaceous adsorbents from end of life tyres.

  • Kofo Awodun

    Kofo joined the research group in October 2023. Her research focuses primarily on the synthesis and application of waste-derived carbon sorbents for carbon capture. She is using biomass combustion bottom ash and waste eggshells to develop carbon sorbent for post-combustion carbon capture.

  • Callum Kenny

    Adsorption-based portable oxygen concentrator for personal medical applications (Oct 2019 - present). Salman is his second supervisor.

  • Darragh Doyle

    October 2023 - Phytomining of nanoparticles PHYONA. Salman is his second supervisor.

    (April 2024 - Present) - Visiting Research Fellow. Dr Vasanthakumar works as a safety engineer for KBR.

  • Dr Agnieszka Adamczuk

    (April 2023 - April 2024) - Visiting Research Fellow (Department of Physical Chemistry of Porous Materials, Polish Academy of Sciences).

  • Dr Roohollah Babaei Mahani

    (January 2022 - present) - Visiting Research Fellow. Roohollah is actively engaged in industrial involvement in and around pyrolysis processes.

  • Dr Kamil Skic

    (October 2022) - Visiting Research Fellow (Department of Physical Chemistry of Porous Materials, Polish Academy of Sciences).

  • Dr Chinedum Mgbemena

    (July 2023 - October 2023) - Visiting Research Fellow (Associate Professor of Design & Materials Technology, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Nigeria)

    Anila is a final year MEng student (2022-2023), working on the synthesis of silica based aerogels for carbon capture.

    Ludivine is a second year student from IUT A Paul-Sabatier, Toulouse, France (summer 2023). She is working on adsorbent synthesis and testing.
